Tula Karras
Thanks for stopping by! I have over 25 years experience in books, magazines and the digital space. I specialize in health and human interest, but I've written on everything from G20 summits to tech to parenting. My skill set lies in translating complex material into clear, relatable copy and telling stories in original, engaging ways. I love collaborations—I believe the shared brain is the best brain.
I'm based in Austin to be close to family (and for the tacos!), with one foot planted in my spiritual home of Brooklyn, where I lived for 15 years. I'm fluent in Spanish, bake a mean baklava, and am sloooowly inching toward my goal of doing an unassisted pull-up.

TESTIMONIALS

Tula is incredible to work with as a thought partner, editor, and writer. I look forward to pitching my next book so I can work with her again. Not only is she an exceptional writer, she has an incredible ability to quickly adopt a client's voice. She asks the right, hard questions to drive the best story and create a connection with the reader. I was also impressed by her research skills, leveraging her background in journalism.

"The Cost of Cool, a history of Austin’s tech emergence, went from a disjointed narrative to a coherent whole. This would not have happed without Tula. Her patience and persistence are remarkable. More than a good writer, Tula is both coach and advisor. The book would not have been finished without her. I cannot recommend her highly enough. She is a true inspiration."
